Bio

Susan (Patterson) Sonbuchner grew up in Northeastern Ohio where she attended West Holmes Highschool in Holmes County, where the largest concentration of Amish in the United States is located. She then went to Taylor University in Upland, Indiana for two years and finished up her teaching degree at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky.

 

She graduated at the age of twenty-two and headed to Colombia, South America to spread the good news of Christ. While there, she received a call from Westminster Christian Academy to come to Opelousas, Louisiana as a teacher. The missionary family in Medellin, Colombia began to pray fervently with her for days. She felt led by God to go, even though she knew nothing about Louisiana or her future there.

 

After moving to Westminster Christian Academy she met her husband, Jon, who was also a teacher at the school. They married and had five children, Hannah (23), Tyler (22), Abby (19), Cindy (16), and Peter (11). Impacting those in South Louisiana for the cause of Christ through the ministry at Westminster has always been where she ‘gets to’ share the gospel daily. Her prayer for the school is that God will pour out His spirit in overflowing measure as she pours out her life for her Heavenly Father.

 

May all of us continue to be encouraged by God’s words as we continue to faithfully present God’s truth through what He has revealed to us in His creation and through His Word. We all have the promise that it will not return void.

 

Isaiah 55:10-11 states:
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

 

She thanks the Lord for this opportunity to come alongside all those who have come before, who are here now, and who are coming after to serve in this place, Westminster Christian Academy!
