Summer Reading Overview

Reading over the summer is incredibly important for students and their academic achievement. Summer is an important time for students to keep reading, improve their language skills, and keep their brains active. Numerous studies indicate that students who don’t read or read infrequently during their summer vacation see their reading abilities stagnate or decline. Of course, as adults we don't stop reading in the summer! It's a great lifelong habit.

Developing Good Habits

It is our desire to encourage the habit of reading as a lifelong practice. While we encourage our students to read more, we want to choose wisely the books we ask them to read. We also want to make sure that what they are reading is not just something that will be checked off a list, but can be incorporated into classroom discussion and lay a foundation of knowledge that will be built upon through the coming school year.

Beginning with that end in mind we have chosen books that:

  • Are grade level appropriate
  • Will be fun and interesting for the students to read
  • Will be the same for all classmates
  • Will be discussed as we return to school in the fall
  • Will be integrated with history and Bible topics covered in the coming year
  • Will continue to build their personal library

Where do I get the books?

It is important that each student own their own book as they will be writing in them. Summer reading books are now part of the book fees paid through the Enrollment Contract and can be picked up in the front office of each campus upon completing enrollment/re-enrollment.
