We are all excited to watch our student-athletes shine this year. At Westminster, you’ve heard us describe athletics as a transformative opportunity. We truly believe that when a student is engaged in competition and teamwork, they are being equipped to excel in other areas of their life. Athletics is a key component of student life at WCA, and our goal is to build an outstanding program known for student-athletes who display excellent sportsmanship while academically achieving and competing to the best of their abilities.
Our athletic department makes every effort to serve our student-athletes by building their confidence and maximizing their potential athletically, academically, and spiritually. Our coaches strive to develop skills of resilience, perseverance, confidence, and commitment. For the last four years, Coach Kent Gable has served at Acadiana High as the Athletic Director and Offensive Coordinator. During his time at Acadiana High, the football program has had an impressive run winning the State Championship in 2020, a Semi-Final appearance in 2021, and a State Championship appearance in 2023. In 2023, the Rams averaged 39.3 PPG, and in 2021, averaged 39.1 PPG, listing both seasons in the Top 5 in Acadiana’s school history.
Before serving as Athletic Director, Gable refined his coaching skills by working with Coach Doug Dotson at Ovey Comeaux High School for the 2015 and 2016 seasons where he served as the Head Offensive Line Coach and Assistant Basketball Coach. In 2017, he returned to his alma mater, Acadiana High, to work under the legendary Ted Davidson, and the Rams made a run to the state Semi-Finals that year. During his time at Acadiana High, he gained more coaching experience by serving as Assistant Offensive Line Coach and Head Girls Track Coach in 2017. In 2018, Matt McCullough took over as Head Football Coach, and Gable was promoted to Offensive Coordinator and took over as the Head Boys Track Coach.
In 2019, Gable left Acadiana High to serve as the first Athletic Director at Westminster Christian Academy’s Lafayette Campus.
He helped lay the foundation of a new sports program and upper school before returning to Acadiana High to run the athletic program as Athletic Director. 
Dr. Ray Casey stated, “During Kent Gable’s interview with our Leadership Team, his love for the Lord, his family, and the WCA community was clearly evident. His passion for promoting, branding, and developing our programs, coaches, and athletes makes him a great choice for us.”
Gable shared that he is looking forward to his return to WCA, “I am extremely excited and blessed to be able to lead this program and I’m looking forward to the next chapter. Westminster Christian Academy Lafayette is poised to quickly become a highly competitive athletic program not only within the Lafayette area but within the state.”
Gable also expressed that he believes the current coaching staff and school leadership have done a tremendous job at setting the vision and direction for what will become an exceptional athletic program. “With the current talent on campus, both at the middle school and high school levels, many of the athletic programs within the athletic department will begin to flourish in the near future.”
Gable will finish the school year at Acadiana High. His official start date at Westminster Christian Academy Lafayette is June 3, 2024. Westminster Christian Academy Lafayette is currently in the Louisiana High School Sports Association (LHSAA) and 2024-2025 will be the first non-probationary year when the Chargers can qualify for the playoffs. WCA Lafayette will join District 6-1A which includes Ascension Episcopal, Gueydan, Highland Baptist, and Vermilion Catholic.
