The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) was established to provide a voice for youth in our community. Students are selected by the Mayor to serve on the Council for a one-year term through an open application process. The students will provide a voice for youth in decisions and policies of the city. MYAC focuses on community service projects, promoting youth activism, and shaping the culture of youth in government.
MYAC will attend workshops and events throughout the year, to include the Youth Conference in Washington, D.C where they will represent the City of Opelousas. While there, they will meet with more than 250 other youth members from around the country.
MYAC will also attend the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council Teen Summit.
Members are looking forward to a successful year of volunteering in the community and learning civic skills.
Serving as Chairman of the Inaugural Year of MYAC is Mr. Kolby Boudreaux. Serving as Secretary of the MYAC is Ms. Ivy Cains. Serving as Communications Director is Mr. Rickey Julien Jr.
Mayor Reggie Tatum describes this council as a group of powerful and diverse young leaders committed to making a difference in Opelousas.
