2020 School Re-Opening Plan

Dear WCA Family,
Thank you for your patience over these past weeks as so much has transpired in the state. Please know our administration, faculty, and staff are all looking forward to seeing the smiling faces of our students and families back on campus again.
I am sure it has been challenging to watch so many stories come out in the news about what various parishes are doing to re-open (or not) this fall. You have probably also followed the news of orders from the Governor, the BESE Board, and the Louisiana Department of Education. We too have been following all of it, but nothing has changed our determination to open school on August 12.
I have attached to this letter a broad plan for our re-opening on August 12. The document lists several areas of school life with actions we will take to keep students, staff, and families safe. Most of these policies are mandated for us by the BESE Board or state entities, as of the past week. However, because of the size of our school, our facility layout, and the commitment of our staff, we can still have school five days per week while adhering to the mandated safety protocols for schools in phase two of state re-opening.
When examining the document containing our re-opening plan, please understand that we have not included every single detail about rules, policies, actions, etc. pertaining to school life. Many of these smaller details will come to you later, but rest assured that you have a fine team of administrators and teachers that are detail oriented.
What about virtual learning?
Many of you will still have questions about the what if’s. The big one is probably around our plans for remote learning should we be forced to do that. Therefore, next week in my communication I will give details around our plans for virtual learning and beyond. We want to be prepared for not only the chance that an order will force us and every other school to go to virtual /remote learning, but that we will have individual students or small groups of students who will miss some time because of quarantine. Even if a student is home for a week or more, we want them to be able to join their class. I am thrilled about what we will be prepared to do and I think you will be also.
The questions you may have about more specific details should be answered for you in future communications, however, your principals are available to assist you as needed.

In Christ,
