Computer Literacy [0.5 Credit] (Prerequisites: Typing proficiency)
Computer Literacy students begin the semester studying computer terms, parts of the computer and how to use an operating system over a network. Students are then taught how to use Microsoft Word to create business and personal letters, form letters, mail merges, tables as well as practice with typing proficiency.
After Word students are immersed in the use of Excel to explore the power of spreadsheets and their use in the business world. Students learn to create labels and formulas, and use the "fill handle" and copy features. Students are given practice in practical applications of spreadsheets such as creating and balancing budgets, calculating expected costs for projects, and determining loan payments based on the interest rate, months, and amount loaned.
The semester is completed with instruction in how to use Powerpoint to create a presentation. Students must then prepare and give a presentation that is evaluated by the teacher based on the inclusion of themes and templates, imported songs and sound effects, transitions and animated gifs.
