WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY SENIORS NAMED NATIONAL MERIT FINALISTS

Students qualify for this distinction by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and scoring in the top 1% of high school seniors.  These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million that will be offered next spring. All winners of Merit Scholarship awards are chosen from the Finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.

Barber, a resident of Opelousas, is a varsity football player and a pitcher/first baseman for the Crusader baseball team.  He is treasurer of the senior class and a member of the National Honor Society.  Judah is an active member of Christ Church of Opelousas.

Johnson, a resident of Lafayette, competes for the Westminster Christian Academy swim team, holds the office of treasurer for the Student Council, is a member of the National Honor Society, and is an accomplished pianist.  She is an active member of First Baptist Church of Lafayette.

These Finalists will compete for one of three types of Merit Scholarships to be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join more than 300,000 other distinguished young people who will have earned the Merit Scholar title.
